3 Reasons for Breathing through the Nose

Reason #1: The Nose is a filter

-The nose acts as the first line of defense against airborne pathagens and disease. Nose hairs, cilia, and mucous membranes capture foreign objects, preventing them from entering the system.

Reason #2 Air Quality

-The nose warms up, pressurizes, moistens, and conditions the air for better absorption compared to mouth breathing

Reason #3 Breath Rate

- Breathing through the nose allows for a slower respiration rate. Mouth breathing encourages over-breathing and thus, a higher respiration rate. The slower we breathing, the calmer we are and the longer we last….in sport and in life.

Here’s one of many articles online that explain the importance of nasal breathing and the time and place for mouth breathing.
